Johnny Wayne, teenager, lives in a self-contained subterranean mall among consumer slaves. After his friend Stevie McQueen is brainwashed for questioning the corporate rulers, Johnny escapes to the surface where he finds happiness, briefly before his own capture and brainwashing.
