especially Sharp and Sony,
were dubious and skeptical
when I first spoke to them.

checked out our web page
that they decided they
wanted to become

Websites in this category are published on a regular basis and, interestingly enough, come from different divisions of the Santa Barbara News-Press. Scene Online, the arts and entertainment magazine from the news department, published weekly, so you always knew that Thursday we were busy. Woman Magazine Online was the premier publication produced by the retail department. It, along with Careers Santa Barbara from the classified department were published on a quarterly basis.

Woman Magazine Online

Starting with Fall 2002 issue, I showed the News-Press just how valuable those PhotoShop classes were when they finally saw photos that had been optimized for the web (see the before). Then for the winter issue I tweaked the design and gave the publication a more striking appearance. For a designer though, you could call this fun with fonts.

Careers Santa Barbara

The Santa Barbara New-Press' employment rep soon became my closest friend. We worked together creating the covers (concept and/or artwork, sometimes both, see ADDLINKS) and websites for this quarterly magazine. We achieve a standardized look and feel for the online product by designing around a grid pattern similiar to Scene Online.

Scene Online

Scene Magazine is the Santa Barbara News-Press' weekly entertainment insert. Oftentimes the feature article (usually movies) could not be used online, so I acted as editor and selected the feature for the cover. My efforts to jazz up the online appearance earned me the Employee of the Month award. Every week the surrounding "web-safe" colors changed based upon the cover photo. I used a different typeface for the date based upon the mood from the photo.

I stopped saving copies of the cover figuring that I had enough. Sadly Scene Online is now delivered in pdf format and doesn't receive this creative treatment. (*indicates favorites; **designer's favorite)
